Wavy Bench Lounge

 Wavy Bench Wall

Ambitious clients and architects dreamed of a wavy bench by the cafe of The Front Climbing Gym. Working with this request meant I needed to balance the steel team’s requirements, with the CNC machine’s limitations, with my own desires to design the bench as dissymetrical as possible.

The gaps between the facade slats create an airy vibe while allowing for some wiggle room during installation. The bench itself posed some challenges, as the client needed a solid piece to avoid dust collection(climbing is very dusty) - a long solid piece on an uneven slab floor! So, I positioned thoughtful hidden legs, organized by sections determined by the size of the site entryway and reasonable weight. Given the amount of sanding and finishing necessary for a continuous solid piece, in the future I would strongly recommend small tasteful gaps, despite the dust.

Also responsible for preparing CNC, production and installation files for hundreds of unique pieces with identical tongue and groove joints, this piece shows off my most visual utility of parametric modeling.
